my creative space: pouch city

After sending off the fat quarters of to the other side of the world for  hand printed: a fabric swap II earlier in the week... I had to make something with the fabric that I screen printed for myself! And guess what I made... yep some more pouches!! I think I may have a bit of a problem... I may have to attend Pouches Anonymous :)

hand printed: a fabric swap II

I've finished screen printing my second lot of fat quarters for  hand printed: a fabric swap II over the weekend... hooray! I love cats and always wanted to do a little kitty cat screen print design... this design has been stuck in my head for quite a while now! So I though it was time to get it out of my head and onto some fabric :)

I screen printed one fat quarter with bright orange cats (one of my swap partners loves orange) and one in fuchsia! I hope my swap partners like cats! I know it's quite a simple design, but I really love how they turned out! I have made some extra for me too, of course!

Now all four fat quarters are packed up and ready to be sent off to the other side of the world... hooray! I hope they like them!

Hope you are having a great start to the week :)

my creative space: fabric swap

I forgot to mention that I am taking part in the hand printed: a fabric swap II that the lovely Leslie Keating from Maze & Vale has organised! I love doing this little swap it's so much fun creating fat quarters for other creative people :)

I have been busy screen printing some lovely little fuchsia poppies... I am loving the colour fuchsia at the moment.

(bad lighting has made the fuchsia look quite red)

I also hand carved a stamp for the center for the poppies to give the design a bit of texture.

I made two lots for the fabric swap. I love it! I think I will have to make some for me too! But for the moment.... I better get onto my next design for the remaining two fat quaters for the swap :)

Hope you are having a great creative week!

screen personality clean up

Last week I decided that my screen printing screens needed a little bit of TLC (tender loving care). They had quite a lot of ink build up on them, from a lot of screen printing, so I got them dehazed which is a process that cleans all the residue ink out of the screens.

I took some "before" shots of my beloved screens. I think they look quite pretty and ever so slightly abused!  It shows how busy I have been... believe it or not I could still screen print using these screens.

I was a little bit shocked when I went to pick them up after their dehazing. I nearly didn't recognise my little screens "my babies", they were totally cleaned..."naked"... it was like their personality has been taken away! :( I know it's quite silly to feel so attached to my old messy screens... but I can't help it!

Oh well... but I am glad they are nice and clean now... ready to be all messed up again and get a whole new personality :)

Happy sunny Monday!

my creative space: more pouches

I think the pouch bug has bit me bad! I LOVE making them! I had an idea for a pouch using my feather arrow screen print! I screen printed the design on some lovely natural coloured linen/cotton fabric in raspberry and gunmetal... love those colours together!

Then I got busy sewing up the pouches! Gunmetal arrows on one side and raspberry on the other! My first attempt didn't work out... arrows all over the place, not lining up! A shocking bit of sewing... no photo's of that one! Always good to have a practice one, I say :)

I love how they have turned out! Not sure if I like the flat pouch or sit up pouch best?

Apologies for the lack of light photo's... it's been a bit dark and rainy around here lately... winter is definitely here... brrrrrrr!

Hope you are having a great creative week!

my creative space: a winter beanie

Not much going on around here lately, as I have been struck down with a dreaded cold! But on the bright side it's one of those ones that your brain goes a bit "la la la de da"... if you are going to get a cold that's the one you want! So it's not so bad really, but I haven't been terribly productive! I did manage to finish a little beanie for my little man last week...

:: knitted beanie using double pointed needles

I based my beanie on this pattern here. I started knitted the beanie on round knitting needles and then had to change to double pointed knitting needles once it all started to get too small to knit on the round. It was the first time I've used double pointed needles and I kind of, accidentally taught myself how to use them and realised why there are four needles in the pack and only three have the knitting on them - the other one is to do the knitting with!! I feel quite silly not knowing that! :)

I am really happy with how it turned out and I love the grey, mustard and blue colours together! It'll be great forkeeping my little man's head warm as the weather is getting colder here in Sydney!
